Dr. Georgia Stefanko

Dr. Georgia Stefanko is a specialist anaesthetist who completed her medical degree at the University of Otago, New Zealand, graduating first in her class.  In the same year, she received the Prince of Wales prize for most outstanding student at the University of Otago across all undergraduate degrees.

Dr. Stefanko subsequently specialised in anaesthesia working and training at a number of hospitals across New Zealand and Australia including Dunedin Public Hospital, Middlemore Hospital (Auckland), Prince of Wales Hospital (Sydney) and John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle. In 2012 she spent one year in Dublin, Ireland, working at the Sports Surgery Clinic – a private hospital predominantly focused on the perioperative care of sportspeople.

Since then, Dr. Stefanko has been based in Newcastle, Australia working largely in the private sector.  She has interests in regional anaesthesia, bariatrics and orthopaedic surgery.  In addition, she works regularly at John Hunter Hospital where she enjoys the variety and complexity of emergency cases and teaching anaesthetic trainees.

When not at work, she moonlights as taxi driver, chef and maid for her two primary aged kids, and tries to run, read and learn French.
