Dr. Dana Perrignon Roth

Dr. Dana Perrignon Roth is a Specialist Anaesthetist based in Newcastle. Born and raised in upstate New York, he moved to Australia in 2003 and completed undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at the University of Sydney, before moving to Orange to complete his residency and begin his anaesthetic training. He undertook the rest of his specialist training in Newcastle before undertaking a regional anaesthesia fellowship at the John Hunter Hospital to hone skills in ultrasound guided nerve blocks for peri-operative anaesthesia and pain management. Dana then went on to complete a second fellowship in paediatric anaesthesia at the Queensland Children’s Hospital in Brisbane, before returning to Newcastle as a consultant anaesthetist. During this time, he also completed a Diploma in Clinical Ultrasound through the University of Melbourne to further develop skills and interests in echocardiography and regional anaesthesia.

Dana currently works as a staff specialist anaesthetist at the John Hunter and Belmont Hospitals, and in private practice throughout Newcastle. His specific clinical interests include paediatric, orthopaedic, vascular, trauma, and plastic surgery. He considers his role as an anaesthetist to be a privilege, and loves that he gets frequent opportunities to teach - whether that be junior doctors coming up through the ranks, or patients who want to be better informed about their medical journey and have their minds put at ease prior to an operation.

Dana is very lucky to have a wonderful young family to share his days off with, and usually fills those days mountain biking, trail running, or trying desperately to teach his toddler how to ski.
