Dr. Angela Baker

Dr. Angela Baker earned her medical degree from the University of Newcastle in the 1990s. She currently serves as a Senior Staff Specialist in Anaesthesia at John Hunter Hospital and holds Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) positions at various private hospitals in the region. Before returning to Newcastle in 2019, Angela worked for many years in the United Kingdom, where she completed a Fellowship in Paediatric Anaesthesia and worked as a Consultant Anaesthetist at both the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow, Scotland. She is a Fellow of both the Royal College of Anaesthetists (UK) and the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists. 

Angela’s expertise spans multiple anaesthesia subspecialties, including colorectal and general surgery, gynaecological surgery, neurosurgery, orthopaedic surgery, and paediatrics. She is particularly skilled in perioperative medicine, focusing on optimising patients’ health before surgery. Her contributions to the field include membership in three Expert Taskforces for the Agency for Clinical Innovation in NSW (Frailty, Prehabilitation, and Shared Decision Making). Additionally, she is a Supervisor of Training for the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists.

Committed to providing empathetic and comprehensive care, Angela strives to ensure patients feel comfortable and well prepared for their surgical procedures. Outside of her professional commitments, she enjoys staying fit, reading, listening to podcasts, cooking, and spending quality time with family and friends, while taking advantage of all that Newcastle has to offer.
